Who is Charlie?

Charlie Hoult is an entrepreneur, investor and regional campaigner for the North East. He was born and grew up in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Charlie set up marketing and communications firm Wilson Harvey, merging the firm into Loewy Group in 2004. In 2009, he returned home to Newcastle, taking up the reins of the family business, Hoults Yard in Byker. He has turned the site into a business hub for creative entrepreneurs. Charlie also co-founded Opencast Software, a technology and software consultancy, and Futureheads, a London-based recruitment agency. These ventures now employ 120 people.

In 2014, he co-founded Dynamo, a forum championing growth in the North East’s IT sector. Dynamo has 150 members and has initiated more than £100m in public projects, including a new National Innovation Centre for Data. Charlie lives in Northumberland with his wife Kate, an NHS consultant, and they have four teenage sons at school in Newcastle.
